When you create a Deeta account, we ask you to confirm your age once. It takes a few seconds and we never ask again.
Why we ask
Deeta stores personal information about the people you know — birthdays, preferences, notes, sometimes sensitive details. Laws in most countries set a minimum age for holding that kind of account, and that minimum differs by country. Asking once, up front, is how we make sure Deeta is only used by people old enough to consent to it.
How it works
There are two ways it can go.
Your iPhone answers for you. On newer versions of iOS, your iPhone can share the age range you fall into — not your birthday, just the range. Your iPhone may ask whether to share it with Deeta. If you do, and the range clears the minimum age, Deeta shows Checking… for a moment and moves straight on. There's no date to enter.
Or you enter your date of birth. If your iPhone can't answer — an older iOS version, or you chose not to share — Deeta asks directly:

What we do with it
We keep a simple record that your account is old enough. We don't store your date of birth, we don't show it anywhere in the app, and it isn't part of your profile or anything you share. On the age-range route, Deeta never receives your birthday at all.
The minimum age depends on where you are:

In the United States — 13.

Everywhere else — 16. That's the stricter European standard, and we apply it broadly rather than trying to draw fine lines between countries.
If Deeta can't work out which applies to you, it uses 16 — the safer of the two.
Troubleshooting
I entered the wrong date. If you haven't finished the step yet, just correct it before tapping Continue. If you've already completed sign-up and think there's a mistake, contact support — this isn't something you can change yourself, by design.
I'm told I'm not old enough. Deeta can't create an account below the minimum age for your country. Nothing is saved, and no account is created. This applies on the age-range route too: if your iPhone reports a range below the minimum, there's no date-of-birth step to fall back to.
I'm 14 and it let my friend in but not me. They're probably in the US, where the minimum is 13. Outside the US it's 16.
I never saw a date-of-birth screen. Then your iPhone confirmed your age range for you, and there was nothing to enter.
I'm signing back in and it isn't asking. Correct — it's only asked when an account is created, not every time you sign in.
Questions
Will you ask me again? No. It's a one-time step.
Does this show up on my profile or in anything I share? No. It isn't part of your profile, your card, or anything a recipient sees.
Is this the same as the birthday on my own contact card? No — completely separate. Your own birthday, and your contacts' birthdays, are ordinary details you choose to add, and Deeta can remind you about them. See Birthday and date reminders.
